Loropetalum chinensis ‘Cherry Blast’
– Evergreen shrub from China
– ‘Cherry Blast’ features very dark
foliage and deep red, fringed
flowers in spring
– Provides contrast and color
– Prefers rich, acidic soil
Loropetalum is a customer favorite because that dark purple foliage is just so striking in the landscape, adding quick, consistent color and interest to the garden. The spidery-looking flowers are also beautiful, and this cultivar’s flowers are an especially dark, deep red. This plant can be a little bit needy in central Texas because it prefers rich, acidic, well-draining soil and some afternoon shade, but it’s pretty enough to be worth the trouble.
