Leucophyllum frutescens ‘Greado’

– Local native evergreen shrub from
hillsides in Central Texas to Mexico
– Medium mauve 1” flowers burst
into bloom before rain comes
– Tough as nails in hot, dry, rocky,
alkaline soil

If you need shrubs or hedges in a truly punishingly sunny and dry location, consider Texas sage. Tiny white hairs densely cover the leaves, making the foliage a beautiful silvery color and protecting the plant from bright sun and searing reflective heat. According to local lore, these bushes act like barometers, covering themselves in a flush of purple blooms just before it rains. We find their accuracy uncanny! This cultivated variety (cultivar for short) has very silver foliage and lavender-pinkish blooms.
