Hedera helix
– Evergreen vine from
Europe and western Asia
– Spreads vigorously
– Climbing aerial roots affix to walls and trees
– Can be used as a groundcover
– Invasive in much of the US, including Central Texas
This can be a quickly spreading cover for the ground or for fences, but be warned: this plant can and will choke out other vegetation, destroy brickwork, or escape your yard and annoy your neighbors. Given these tendencies, we suggest confining it to a container and keeping a close eye on it. It also makes a great houseplant.
