Conoclinium greggii

– Native deciduous perennial from
South Texas to Arizona & Mexico
– Puffy periwinkle flowers from May
to October, heaviest in fall
– Fresh-looking bright green leaves
– Butterfly MAGNET!! They love it!

Native to West Texas, this plant loves full sun and tolerates seasonal flooding if it has good drainage. It also looks positively magical as soon as it starts blooming in late spring: misty clusters of light purple flowers and a rabble of butterflies and native bees make it a perfect addition to a butterfly garden or any part of your landscape that you just like to sit and look at. Use this plant as a groundcover or natural looking border, and be sure to give it some water in the hottest parts of summer to keep it blooming. Male Queen and Monarch butterflies use the nectar from this plant as a gift when they mate, as it contains a compound that makes the resulting eggs taste bad to predators!
