Prunus persica ‘La Feliciana’

– Deciduous tree from NW China
– Firm, yellow flesh with a sweet,
tangy flavor
– Freestone; self-fertile
– Head back new growth by 1/2 each
winter; on younger trees, prune long whips to 18”

La Feliciana is a little bit firmer and tangier than June Gold, so it’s perfect for those who prefer a firmer peach or want a peach that will have a great texture when cooked into cobbler. Peach trees are self-fertile and do beautifully in central Texas, but they do require that you take care to provide lots of organic matter in spring and fall for a long lived, well-producing plant. Prune to a vase shape for maximum air circulation, sunshine to ripen your peaches, and fruits that you can reach up and pick easily. 400-500 chill hours.
