Hill Country Water Gardens & Nursery is honored to have members of our staff who have not only served in the military but are also veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We asked them, the members of our staff, and the Hill Country Water Gardens community if they had names of soldiers, sailors, or airmen who died in military service. We would like to recognize, honor, and thank them for their service. Please take a moment to read the names:
PFC Casey Chapman
Date of Passing: February 4th, 2015, 21 years of age
Medals include: Army commendation medal, Army achievement medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Overseas Service Medal.
SPC Brian Luckey
Date of Passing: July 18th, 2015, 22 years of age
Medals include: the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon
CPL Joseph Maciel
Date of Passing: July 7, 2016, 20 years of age
Medals include: the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Badge
SFC Allan Brown
Date of Passing: December 6, 2016, 46 years of age
Medals include: the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star.
SSG Christopher Staats
Date of Passing: October 16, 2009, 32 years of age
Chris served in Kosovo in 2005, as well as serving in Afghanistan with the 143rd Infantry Detachment in 2009 during Operation Freedom. Chris was part of an Agribusiness development team whose purpose was to help the Afghan people to become self-sufficient in farming, ranching, and business.
CPL Amaziah Wilson Greenwood
Date of Passing: September 26, 1944, 21 years of age
Cpl Greenwood was 47th of the 9th Infantry Division, US Army, European Theater WWII. He was killed in action while parachuting into Belgium. He was survived by his brother Lemuel, a veteran of the Pacific Theater, and a daughter he never met.
SPC James E. Rainbolt
Date of Passing: April 23, 1968, 20 years of age.
Spc Rainbolt - 1st Calvary Division, US Army.
His tour in Vietnam began in September 1967.

Msgt Kirkhuff USAF - Served in both Korea and Vietnam.
COL Deborah Kirkhuff
Date of Passing: June 12, 2021
Col Kirkhuff- USAF was the third class of female cadets to graduate from the Air Force Academy
